Be Still and Know

“Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10 NIV

We are directed to be still and know.

Be still - Strong’s Hebrew 7503: to sink, relax, let drop, let go, to be quiet…

Be (Thesaurus Definition) Draw breath, be situated, remain.

Still (Thesaurus Definition) Calm, placid, tranquil, peaceful, undisturbed.

And Know - Strong’s Hebrew 3045: know, perceive, find out, discern, consider, recognize, acknowledge, be acquainted with, become known…

Know (Thesaurus Definition) BE AWARE, HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF, recognize, sense.

In other words: Relax…let go…remain undisturbed…recognize…I AM!

STOP! Be quiet within this moment and know… I AM!

Use this point in time to be still before God, letting go of all that is troubling you. Choose to be undisturbed, not anxious. Recognize I AM! Thus, discern God Almighty will be exalted among the nations, and within the situation troubling you.

Prayer

Father,

I confess my unrest. My eyes have been fixed on the situations that surround me. My heart has grown anxious, as the turmoil escalates.

I take this moment to be still before You…letting go of every anxious thought.

Let my heart be undisturbed as I rest within Your presence. Here, within this moment, help me to recognize the greatness of I AM.

I choose to stop being troubled - no longer frantic within. Prince of Peace, step in, and fill me with the Shalom of Heaven, as I acknowledge You.

To You I cry, be exalted, O God, among the nations! Let Your song silence my troubles. I say, “Stop!” to my anxious thoughts. Stop. Become still. And know.

My God is an ever-present help in trouble.

Amen

Psalm 46

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A song.

God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall;

God will help her at break of day.

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;

he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,

the desolations he has brought on the earth.

He makes wars cease

to the ends of the earth.

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

he burns the shields with fire.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Lord Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Isaiah 26:3 NIV

You will keep in perfect peace

those whose minds are steadfast,

because they trust in you.

May the Prince of Peace fill your heart this day!
