Don’t worry about today.
“Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?”
Matthew 6: 25 AMP
Stop being anxious.
“So, which one of you by worrying could add anything to your life?” Matthew 6:27 TPT
What good does it do?
Seek first the kingdom of God.
" But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." Matthew 6:33 NKJV
Refuse to worry.
"Refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way, one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself." Matthew 6:34 TPT
Don’t get worked up about tomorrow.
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. Matthew 6:34 MSG
Attention is key!
The definition of worry in the above verses as found in the Strong’s Lexicon, Greek reference number 3309, reads: to be over anxious; to be anxious about, distracted. The dictionary definition is to prevent (someone) from giving full attention to something, divert one’s attention.
There is much throughout the day to distract us. Especially now! Recently, I watched
as two friends discussed the current day political situation in our country. What I saw in the spirit was the windup of worry within the hearts of the participants. Like an antique windup toy, the enemy had turned up the age ole scheme of worry. Twisting their attention to the worries of tomorrow; they became wound tight with anxiety.
Worry successfully diverted their attention, robbing their minds of peace, killing their joy, and was successfully destroying all hope of a bright future. Where they placed their attention was key!
Worry coils within us, distracting us from the Prince of Peace. It is a diabolical distraction. Diverting us from our Christian walk, worry prevents us from giving our full attention to Christ. Think about it. If we gave our full attention to our God in heaven, there would be no place for worry.
The picture the Lord brought to mind, regarding giving God our full attention, was a nursing baby. The baby is enveloped by the mother’s embrace. The infant is not distracted, but fully fixed on the presence of the one giving nourishment. Safe. Warm. At peace. Content. No worries. No thoughts of tomorrow. No travail. Surrounded by the one who cares. Satisfied. Totally, focused on the now. Attentive. The Message Bible puts it like this: “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” (Matthew 6:34 MSG )
It's time. It's time to place yourself in the arms of the One who cares. Giving full attention to Him. Trust. Be at peace. Find contentment in the Father’s presence.
The Father is calling, “Child, it is time to unwind.”
Prayer
Father,
I admit to being distracted by worry. I have allowed anxiety to make me anxious, preventing me from giving my full attention to You. I confess, my focus has not been fixed upon You, but on the cares of today, and the concerns of tomorrow. I repent, Father, for not turning into you, trusting like a newborn babe, taking nourishment from Your presence. I choose to be in that place with You now.
Unwind the worry within me.
Draw me in, O Lord, free me from the grip of worry. Purge me of any anxious thoughts.
Relieve the tension within me.
I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and speak peace over the circumstances surrounding me. Prince of Peace, I invite You to step into my life.
You have my attention.
In Your presence, O Lord, I have found a safe place to unwind. So be it.
Amen
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:6-8 NKJV
